POSTDOCTORAL POSITION OPEN EEG MEASURES OF PERCEPTUAL DEVELOPMENT University of Toronto (Mississauga Campus) Posted November 2022 Applications are now being accepted for a full-time post-doctoral research scientist in Dr. Elizabeth Johnson’s Child Language and Speech Studies lab ( Applicants should have a Ph.D. in a relevant field of study (e.g., Psychology, Neuropsychology, Experimental Linguistics, Cognitive Sciences, etc.) by the position start date, strong writing skills, and advanced training in experimental design and statistics. The successful candidate will work on a planned set of speech perception experiments as well as develop a unique line of research in collaboration with Dr. Johnson. Most importantly, the successful applicant will have advanced technical expertise in designing, running, and analyzing both behavioral and EEG studies with human participants (preferably in the auditory domain). One of the primary responsibilities associated with this position will be to help establish and oversee Dr. Johnson’s newly built CFIfunded infant EEG lab. Thus, technical expertise in the EEG methodology is absolutely essential. Experience working with children or speech would be a major plus but is not required.

The successful candidate will become a member of the Perception Cognition and Language Group in the Psychology Department at the University of Toronto (Mississauga campus) and will join the University of Toronto’s expansive and state-of-the-art research community. This position includes opportunities to collaborate and learn from local human perception and EEG experts such as Dr. Kei Fukuda and Dr. Christina der Nederlanden, as well as access to active intellectual communities including the Developmental Interest Group (, the Cognitive Science of Language Group (, and the Toronto Neuroimaging Center ( Note that the University of Toronto ranked 1st in Canada and 12th in the world for research excellence according to the Times Higher Education Rankings. The candidate will work towards a strong publication record and apply for independent funding after the first year. The position is 100% research, although some contributions to lab management and general mentorship of junior students will be expected.

Starting salary will be $42,000 to 55,000, depending on level of fit and expertise. Initial appointment will be for one year, with renewal possible for up to three years.
